Purpose

To create an application that could help with the COVID-19 crisis.

Observation

People have a lot more free time on their hands that needs to get filled one way or another. People also are having a hard time motivating themselves to do anything and can waste away their days in quarantine scrolling through social media.

IDEA

How could I make people feel motivated everyday, while also reminding them that it is okay to take breaks and enjoy a book or movie every once in a while?

How could I get people to cut down on their social media usage and pursue other more productive options of entertainment?

I wanted to create an environment that would capitalize on the increase of screen time during quarantine. An application that would be the one stop shop for everything COVID-19. Everything from daily recommendations to challenges to COVID updates to a community chat room where quarantine activities and memes could be shared.

I also wanted to take into account the mental health aspect of quarantining and try to give a platform and community to people that are struggling at home by themselves.

To create an a minimum viable product that utilizes API calls to gather daily recommendations for entertainment such as books, movies, and quotes that would help people get through quarantine.

Conclusion

Applications Used
Future Development

This was only a minimum viable product for the full application we wanted to build. In the future, we are looking into using Google Firebase to take care of the back end.

Takeaways

It is important to take into account the ability of the team to build products while coming up with an idea for a hack-a-thon. We knew that we could always add to an application like this, but it was important to deliver a functioning product that we could demo.
